Which is the highest peak in the Kumaon Himalaya?
Correct: B, Nanda Devi. At 7,816 m it is the highest summit of the Kumaon Himalaya, the longitudinal division of the Himalaya that runs from the Satluj river in the west to the Kali river in the east. It is also the highest mountain lying entirely within India: Kangchenjunga (8,586 m) is higher but sits on the India–Nepal border. Nanda Devi rises inside the Nanda Devi Sanctuary in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, ringed by a near-continuous wall of high peaks that kept it unclimbed until 1936.
Kamet (7,756 m), near the Tibet border in the Zaskar range, is Uttarakhand's second-highest peak: genuinely high, but about 60 m short of Nanda Devi.
Trishul is a group of three peaks on the rim of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary; its highest summit, Trishul I (7,120 m), is far below Nanda Devi. Its fame is historical: in 1907 it became the first 7,000 m peak ever climbed.

The commission re-marked this paper part-way through the run: papers up to 2025 carried 2 marks a question and no negative marking, and from 2026 each carries 3 marks with 1 deducted for a wrong answer. Counts below are of questions we have solved and published, not of the full syllabus: so they show where the paper actually goes, not where it could.

The correct option on every one of the 897 solved MPPSC questions is taken from the final answer key published by Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission, not from our reading of the question. Where the commission cancelled a question or awarded grace marks, the paper says so rather than quietly printing one answer.

Partly. MPPSC (MP State Service Examination) shares its General Studies backbone with UPSC (polity, modern history, geography, economy and environment all overlap) so those questions are genuine extra practice. The state-specific portion (state history, state geography, state schemes and current affairs) does not appear in UPSC at all, so treat it as MPPSC-only preparation rather than shared revision.
MPPSC is generally less competitive than UPSC on the ratio of candidates to vacancies, but it is not an easier paper in every respect. Its state-specific questions are often narrower and more factual than anything UPSC asks, which rewards a different kind of preparation: depth on one state rather than breadth across India.
