Every paper, mark and head below is from the UPPSC — Combined State / Upper Subordinate Services (General/Special Recruitment) Examination advertisement (Advt. No. A-1/E-1/2026, dated 25/06/2026). Quoted text is labelled as the Commission’s wording; everything else is our note.
Two of the six General Studies papers are set entirely on Uttar Pradesh. That is 400 of the 1500 Mains marks on one state.

Both papers are objective and multiple choice, both 200 marks, both two hours. Prelims marks do not carry into the final merit — the Commission holds it to select candidates for the Mains.
Eight heads. Three of them carry a stated standard — Class X level — for Elementary Mathematics, General English and General Hindi.

History of Indian Culture will cover the salient aspects of Art Forms, literature and Architecture from ancient to modern times.General Studies V and VI are set entirely on the state. A national syllabus holds no UP-specific equivalent to these two.

One third of the marks allotted to a question is deducted for a wrong answer, on both Prelims papers. A question left unattempted costs nothing, and with four options that penalty makes a blind guess worth exactly zero on average — it neither gains nor loses over a full paper.
This page publishes no topic weightage. We publish weightage only on our BPSC and EPFO APFC syllabus pages, where every percentage is a count. We hold seven years of solved UPPSC Prelims, but those questions are not tagged to the heads above — so a percentage here would be an estimate rather than a count.
We solve UPPSC Prelims one question at a time, in English and हिन्दी, with a worked explanation for the right option and for each wrong one.
Prelims, then Mains, then an interview. Prelims is two objective papers of 200 marks each and two hours each — Paper-I General Studies with 150 questions, and Paper-II with 100. Mains is eight compulsory descriptive papers totalling 1500 marks, each allowed three hours. Prelims marks do not carry into the final merit.
Eight compulsory subjects, numbered in that order by the Commission: General Hindi (150 marks), Essay (150), and then General Studies First through Sixth Paper at 200 marks each. That is 1500 marks. General Hindi and Essay come first in the advertisement’s numbering. The compilation we checked this page against put them at the end as Paper-VII and Paper-VIII; the Commission uses neither name.
No. The Mains consists of the eight compulsory subjects listed in the advertisement, and there is no optional paper among them. Two of the six General Studies papers — the Fifth and the Sixth — are set entirely on Uttar Pradesh.

Yes. Paper-II of the Preliminary Examination is a qualifying paper with the minimum fixed at 33%. Clear that bar and your shortlist depends on Paper-I alone. It is still an objective paper carrying the same negative marking, so a poor attempt strategy can cost you the qualification itself.

GS-V runs to 21 numbered items and GS-VI to 23, and both are entirely about the state. GS-VI opens on the economy and state budget, then infrastructure and physical resources, trade, commerce and industries, public finance, One District One Product, investment, science and technology, and public-private partnership. Between them they are 400 of the 1500 Mains marks.
Yes. Seven years of Prelims — 2019 through 2025 — are published question by question, in English and हिन्दी. What we have not done is tag those questions to the syllabus heads above, so this page carries no subject weightage of its own; a percentage here would be an estimate rather than a count.
Both are in use and they mean different things. UPPSC is the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, the body that conducts the examination. UPPCS is how candidates usually refer to the Provincial Civil Services examination it conducts. The Commission’s own advertisement calls it the Combined State / Upper Subordinate Services Examination.
