Read the following prose passage carefully and answer the questions that follow: Life exists only through cooperation; ultimately, competition leads to ruin and death. We should take others along with us; if someone lags behind, we must help him. If all of us adopt this sense of mutuality, we shall stand by one another in times of crisis, save each other and encourage one another on the path of development. Life is secure only in this process of cooperation. If, nurturing selfish motives, we keep pulling one another down while trying to push ourselves forward, that will be competition. Such competition, pitting us against each other, will make us quarrel and fight and, in the end, will become the cause of mutual destruction. The First and Second World Wars, which sought to expand empires, colonies and trade, resulted in worldwide devastation. In truth, competition is the road to destruction for human civilisation, whereas mutual cooperation between individuals and nations alone can safeguard it. At present, the slogan of geopolitical and economic superiority is nothing but a fresh campaign to extend the economic empire of developed countries, in which even their mutual interests clash and the fear of a massive future crisis is surfacing.
