For empowerment of women Indira Mahila Shakti Nidhi was launched on –
- (1)18 December, 2019
- (2)18 December, 2018
- (3)18 December, 2016
- (4)18 December, 2017
Answer
Why
Correct — option (1), 18 December, 2019.
Rajasthan's Economic Review 2020-21 dates the launch twice. The highlights opening chapter 9, Other Social Services/Programmes, say Indira Mahila Shakti Nidhi was launched on 18 December 2019 “with the view of all round empowerment of women.”
The same chapter's section on the Nidhi repeats the date. It says the Rajasthan Government announced the Nidhi with a budget allotment of ₹1,000 crore, and that the scheme was launched on 18 December 2019 to meet a set of objectives for women.
The four options share the day and month, 18 December, and differ only in year. The Review's year is 2019, so the answer is 18 December, 2019.
The idea to remember: Indira Mahila Shakti Nidhi: ₹1,000 crore umbrella for women's empowerment, launched 18 December 2019.
Why the others are wrong
- (2)18 December, 2018 — The day and month are right but the year is one too early. Both passages of the Economic Review 2020-21 give the launch as 18 December 2019.
- (3)18 December, 2016 — This is three years before the date in the Economic Review 2020-21, which records the launch on 18 December 2019.
- (4)18 December, 2017 — This is two years too early. The Economic Review 2020-21 gives the launch of Indira Mahila Shakti Nidhi as 18 December 2019.
Concept
Indira Mahila Shakti Nidhi is an umbrella fund. The Economic Review 2020-21 says all the schemes for skill development will be brought together under it, with a focus on all round empowerment of women.
Its listed objectives are aid to women to set up industries, aid for innovative research, skill training for women and girls, awareness for education, and assistance to rehabilitate women victims.
The Directorate of Women Empowerment implements its schemes, among them Indira Mahila Shakti Udhyam Protsahan Yojana, Indira Mahila Shakti Prashikshan Evam Kaushal Samvardhan Yojana, Kaushal Samarthya Yojana and Shiksha Setu Yojana.
RPSC's 2021 syllabus lists “Major Welfare Schemes of State Government” for groups including women under the Economy of Rajasthan.
In the same section, the Review lists four other schemes being implemented for women's empowerment in the State: Mahila Shakti Programme Kendra, Dhan Laxmi Mahila Samridhi Kendra, allotment of fair price shops to women's self-help groups, and prevention of child marriage.
Rajasthan's Budget Speech 2021-22, of 24 February 2021, proposed Indira Mahila Shakti Kendras at all district headquarters, including Jaipur, for women's problems and counselling, at ₹15 crore.

Common traps
- Anchoring on the day and month: all four options say 18 December, so only the year decides.
- Confusing the umbrella with its parts: the Nidhi is the fund; Udhyam Protsahan and Prashikshan Evam Kaushal Samvardhan are schemes under it.
- Mixing the Nidhi with the Kendras: the 2021-22 budget proposed Indira Mahila Shakti Kendras, a separate counselling set-up.
A question can ask the launch date of a state scheme, with options that change only the year.
A question can also ask a scheme's budget allotment, implementing body or objectives, or name a scheme and ask which umbrella it falls under.
