We look upon the man who gives it as offering an affront to our understanding and intelligence, treating us as children or idiots. We consider the instruction as an implicit censure. There is nothing so difficult as the art of making advice agreeable. All the writers both ancient and modern, have distinguished themselves according to their perfection in their art. Great writers made use of different devices to render the bitter potion palatable. Some made use of best chosen words, others, through flash of wit, and still others by using precise expressions like proverbs. The best means, however, is the use of fable. A fable pleases most universally. A fable is not directly related to our everyday world nor does it contain any direct attack. In what ways have authors tried to make advice palatable ?
