Which one of the following is not a part of Rajasthan Urban Drinking Water Sewerage and Infrastructure Corporation Limited ?
- (1)Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Finance and Development Corporation Limited
- (2)Rajasthan Avas Vikas Infrastructure Limited
- (3)Rajasthan Housing Board
- (4)Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project
Answer
Why
Correct — option (3), Rajasthan Housing Board.
The Local Self Government Department's introduction page on the Government of Rajasthan portal sets out how RUDSICO was put together.
RUDSICO began as Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Finance and Development Corporation Limited (RUIFDCO), a government company incorporated in December 2004. Its name was changed from RUIFDCO to RUDSICO on 19 November 2015.
Following Cabinet order 160/2014 of 12 December 2014, Rajasthan Avas Vikas Infrastructure Limited (RAVIL) was merged into RUDSICO by a Ministry of Corporate Affairs order of 29 January 2016. The Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project (RUIDP) was merged into it by an administrative order dated 13 April 2016.
Rajasthan Housing Board is not among them. It is an autonomous board established on 24 February 1970 under its own Act. The Economic Review 2022-23 lists it with the development authorities, urban improvement trusts, the Town Planning Office and Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation among the bodies the government set up for urban development.
RUDSICO = RUIFDCO renamed, with RAVIL and RUIDP merged in; the Housing Board stands apart.
Why the others are wrong
- (1)Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Finance and Development Corporation Limited — RUIFDCO is RUDSICO under its earlier name. The company was incorporated in December 2004 as Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Finance and Development Corporation Limited and renamed RUDSICO on 19 November 2015.
It is the company into which RAVIL and RUIDP were later merged, so it is part of RUDSICO.
- (2)Rajasthan Avas Vikas Infrastructure Limited — Rajasthan Avas Vikas Infrastructure Limited (RAVIL) was merged into RUDSICO by a Ministry of Corporate Affairs order dated 29 January 2016, following Cabinet order 160/2014 of 12 December 2014.
The State issued a notification on the merger on 12 April 2016.
- (4)Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project — The Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project (RUIDP) was taken up by the State Government in 1998 as a special purpose vehicle, with support from the Government of India and the Asian Development Bank.
It was merged into RUDSICO by an administrative order dated 13 April 2016.
Concept
RUDSICO — Rajasthan Urban Drinking Water Sewerage and Infrastructure Corporation Limited — is a government company that the Local Self Government Department lists among the organisations under it.
It was assembled in steps. RUIFDCO, incorporated in December 2004, was renamed RUDSICO on 19 November 2015. RAVIL was merged into it on 29 January 2016, and RUIDP, the special purpose vehicle for urban projects taken up in 1998, on 13 April 2016.
The Rajasthan Housing Board is a different kind of body. Its website says it was established in 1970 under the Rajasthan Housing Board Act as an autonomous body to meet housing needs in the State, with a chairman appointed by the State Government.
RPSC's syllabus for Economy of Rajasthan lists "Infrastructure & Resources." and "Major Development Projects." RUDSICO and RUIDP are the State's vehicles for urban water supply, sewerage and related projects.
The Local Self Government Department controls the municipalities, and its introduction page describes RUIDP and RUDSICO. Under urban development, the Economic Review 2022-23 lists the Rajasthan Housing Board and Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation alongside development authorities and urban improvement trusts.
The Economic Review 2022-23 names RUDSICO as the nodal agency for the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns in the State, and reports works under RUIDP Phase-III and Phase-IV.
It also lists the Rajasthan Urban Sector Development Program (RUSDP) as RUIDP Phase III, funded by the Asian Development Bank.

Common traps
- Treating RUIFDCO as a body outside RUDSICO. It is the same company under its earlier name.
- Mixing up the two housing names. Rajasthan Avas Vikas Infrastructure Limited (RAVIL) was merged into RUDSICO; the Rajasthan Housing Board (Rajasthan Avasan Mandal) was not.
- Assuming every urban body in Rajasthan sits inside RUDSICO. The Rajasthan Housing Board is an autonomous board under its own 1970 Act.
A question can list bodies and ask which one is not part of a merged corporation, as here.
A question can also ask for RUDSICO's former name, the year RUIDP was taken up, or the objective of a RUIDP phase.
