(a) Passage-A: There are only three ways to obtain knowledge from a guru: humility, curiosity and service, of which humility is foremost. An ideal student must be humble as well as disciplined. Disciplined students fulfil their duties towards their country, their community, their parents and their college. An undisciplined student’s mental and intellectual development remains stunted, and he is deprived of the qualities that bring honour to a person. Discipline is of special importance in the field of education; only through it can a student enter the ranks of excellent learners. Because today’s student becomes tomorrow’s citizen, the lack of true citizens in the country is due to the indiscipline seen in the youth of our times.

(b) Passage-B: When a man’s desire for a particular object becomes excessive, the mere possession, capacity or use of that object no longer satisfies him; he wants to obtain it again and again, continuously. When the greed for wealth becomes a disease and takes root in one’s mind, the wish for acquisition grows even after attainment. Thus man remains forever restless and discontented; his happiness is always uncertain. For the one who constantly imagines scarcity or loss, sorrow is inevitable. Therefore, for anyone who lives in such fanciful want or dissatisfaction, his link with true happiness is eventually broken.
