Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. Correct — A. India's first Test win came against England at the Chepauk ground in Madras, now Chennai, on 6–10 February 1952.

In that fifth Test India won by an innings and 8 runs. Vinoo Mankad took 8 for 55 in England's first innings and Polly Umrigar scored 130 → option (a).

Kolkata — Kolkata: Calcutta's Eden Gardens also staged a Test of that series, and it too ended drawn.

Concept

India played its first Test in 1932 and waited 20 years and 25 Tests for a win. It came in the fifth and final Test of England's 1951–52 tour, at Madras.

England had won the fourth Test at Kanpur, so the series ended 1–1, with three draws. India's first Test series win came the next season: 2–1 at home against Pakistan in 1952–53.

The stem says India won its first-ever Test series against England in 1952. It did not: that series was drawn 1–1. What India won at Madras in February 1952 was its first Test match.

Chennai is still the city the question is after, and no other option fits better.
