Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. Why

Correct — B. In Census 2011 the lowest sex ratio of any state or UT was Daman and Diu, 618 females per 1,000 males, against a national figure of 943.

The other three are low too, but none comes close: Dadra and Nagar Haveli 774, Haryana 879, Punjab 895 → option (b).

Why the others are wrong

Haryana — Haryana, 879, was the lowest among the states in 2011. The stem includes Union Territories, and Daman and Diu sat far lower at 618.

Punjab — Punjab, 895, was among the low-ratio states in 2011, but it was above Haryana and far above Daman and Diu's 618.
(d)
Dadar and Nagar Haveli — Dadra and Nagar Haveli (printed here as 'Dadar') recorded 774: low, but well above Daman and Diu. The two UTs have since been merged into one.

Concept

Sex ratio in the Indian Census is the number of females per 1,000 males. Census 2011 put India at 943.

Kerala had the highest figure among states at 1084, and Puducherry led the UTs at 1037. The bottom of the table was held by small UTs: Daman and Diu (618), Dadra and Nagar Haveli (774) and Chandigarh (818).

The stem says 'States/Union Territories', so the answer can be a UT. Haryana is the lowest state, and that is the trap.

Common traps

Answering Haryana because it is the best-known low-ratio state: the stem includes UTs, and Daman and Diu is far lower.
Mixing up the overall sex ratio with the child sex ratio (0-6 years): they are separate Census measures.
