Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. Correct — B. The Bist Doab lies between the Beas and the Sutlej, not the Beas and the Chenab.

Line the rivers up west to east, Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas, Sutlej, and each Punjab doab takes one neighbouring pair. The Beas and the Chenab are not neighbours, since the Ravi flows between them → option (b).

Concept

A doab (Persian do-ab, 'two waters') is the tract of land between two rivers that meet. The Punjab plains divide into five: Sind Sagar (Indus–Jhelum), Chaj or Jech (Jhelum–Chenab), Rachna (Chenab–Ravi), Bari (Ravi–Beas) and Bist (Beas–Sutlej).

Bist, Bari, Rachna and Chaj are built from the initial letters of their two rivers, so the names themselves carry the pairs.

The stem's spellings 'Bisht' and 'Jech' refer to the Bist and Chaj doabs. The Bist Doab is also called the Doaba.

Common traps

Checking only the first river of each pair: the Bist Doab does touch the Beas, so the error sits in the second river.
Mixing up Bari and Bist, the two doabs that share the Beas.

Here the doabs are tested as a NOT-matched pair, where one wrong river in one pair is the whole question.
