Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. Why

Correct — C. The Australian state of Victoria was to host 2026, but cancelled its hosting agreement on 18 July 2023 because the estimated cost had climbed to A$6-7 billion.

The Scottish Government agreed on 17 September 2024 to step in, and Glasgow holds the Games from 23 July to 2 August 2026 → option (c).

Why the others are wrong

Birmingham — Birmingham hosted the previous edition, in 2022. It was not the replacement for Victoria.

Victoria — Victoria is the Australian host that withdrew in July 2023, the reason the Games had to move.
(d)
Toronto — Toronto was not the replacement. After Victoria pulled out, it was the Scottish Government that agreed to stage the Games, in Glasgow.

Concept

The Commonwealth Games are held every four years. After Victoria's withdrawal, Glasgow agreed to a scaled-down edition of 10 sports, the fewest since 1994.

Only athletics and swimming remained compulsory, so many traditional sports were left out to cut cost. Glasgow last hosted in 2014, and Scotland earlier held the Games in Edinburgh in 1970 and 1986.

The stem's 'after Australia withdrew' refers to the state of Victoria, which had signed the hosting agreement.
