Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. The solutions are written by UnlockIAS.

Correct — A. Check each statement against Hockey India's official results.

Statement 1: the final on 13 February 2025 ended Karnataka 3–2 Uttar Pradesh. True.

Statement 2: the semi-final ended Karnataka 2–2 Maharashtra, and Karnataka won the shoot-out 5–4. True.

Statement 3 reverses the bronze match: Maharashtra beat Punjab 1–0. False.

Only 1 and 2 → option (a).

Why the others are wrong

Both 1 and 3 are correct — Statement 3 is false. Maharashtra won the bronze match, beating Punjab 1–0, so Punjab did not win bronze. This pair also leaves out statement 2, which is true.
(c)
Both 2 and 3 are correct — Statement 3 is false: Maharashtra beat Punjab 1–0 for bronze. This pair also drops statement 1, and Karnataka did beat Uttar Pradesh 3–2 in the final.
(d)
1, 2 and 3 all are Correct — Not all three hold. Statements 1 and 2 are true, but statement 3 swaps the bronze-match result: Maharashtra beat Punjab 1–0.

Concept

In a knockout event the two semi-final winners play the final for gold and silver, and the two semi-final losers play for bronze.

Here Karnataka beat Maharashtra in a shoot-out and Uttar Pradesh beat Punjab 5–3. So the final was Karnataka v Uttar Pradesh, and the bronze match Maharashtra v Punjab.

The bracket tells you who met for bronze. Only the result tells you who won it.

All India Radio's preview on 13 February 2025, the day of the final, named Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh as the men's finalists. It was wrong: Hockey India's results show Karnataka won the semi-final shoot-out and then the final.

Common traps

Assuming Maharashtra won the 2–2 semi-final. Statement 2 does not say who won the shoot-out, but Karnataka did, and went on to the final.
Accepting statement 3 because its teams and score are right. Maharashtra and Punjab did meet, and it did end 1–0, but Maharashtra won.
