Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Why

Correct — C. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav launched the Aravalli Green Wall Project on 25 March 2023 at Tikli village in Haryana, to green a 5 km buffer around the Aravalli range in four States.

It plants native trees and shrubs on scrubland, wasteland and degraded forest land, and restores ponds, lakes and streams. Its stated objectives include improving the ecological health of the Aravalli range. That is option (c).

Why the others are wrong

(a)
Afforestation in Himalayan states — The project's four States are Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Delhi, and its work lies around the Aravalli hills. Himalayan afforestation is no part of it.
(b)
Building forest corridors across Indo-Gangetic plains — The Indo-Gangetic plains are not the project's ground. It is defined by the Aravalli hills of Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Delhi and a 5 km buffer around them.
(d)
Soil carbon sequestration in desert zones — The project works around the Aravalli hills, not inside desert zones. Its link to the desert is defensive: green barriers to stop the Thar Desert spreading east.

Concept

The Aravalli hills run through Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi along the eastern edge of the Thar Desert.

The Environment Ministry's stated objectives include:
improving the ecological health of the range
checking the eastward expansion of the Thar with green barriers against soil erosion, desertification and dust storms
