Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. Consider the following statements regarding belt ranks and competition area in Judo: 1) A red-and-white belt is associated with judokas from Sixth dan to Eighth dan levels. 2) A shared safety zone of at least 1 meter must be maintained between adjoining competition areas. Which of the above statements is/are correct?

Why

Correct — A. Statement 1 is true. Under Kodokan and IJF practice, 6th, 7th and 8th dan wear a belt of alternating red and white panels. The first five dan wear black, and 9th dan and above wear solid red.

Statement 2 is false. The IJF's Sport and Organisation Rules require a common safety area of at least 4 metres between adjoining competition areas, not 1 metre.

Why the others are wrong

Only 2 is Correct — Reverses the verdict. The red-and-white belt statement is correct, and a 1-metre gap is far below the 4 m shared safety area the IJF sets between mats.

1 and 2 both are correct — Statement 2 fails. A 1-metre shared zone is well short of the 4 m the IJF requires between adjoining competition areas.
(d)
Neither 1 nor 2 is Correct — Statement 1 is correct: the red-and-white belt is worn from 6th to 8th dan, before solid red at 9th dan and above.

Concept

Judo ranks climb through kyu grades to dan grades. The first five dan wear a black belt, 6th to 8th dan a red-and-white belt, and 9th dan and above a solid red belt.

The mat has an inner contest area and an outer safety area. Where competition areas sit side by side, they share one safety area, which the rules set at a minimum of 4 m.

The IJF rules set the outer safety area at a minimum of 3 m, and the common safety area between adjoining mats at a minimum of 4 m.

Read as a statement of the rule, statement 2's 1 m misstates that 4 m minimum, which is how the key treats it.

Accepting 1 m because it sounds like a sensible safety margin, when the shared zone between adjoining mats is 4 m.
