Rule: any product with 0 as a factor is 0.
The digits 0 to 9 include 0:
0 × 1 × 2 × 3 × … × 9 = 0 → option (b).
Multiplying by the remaining nine digits cannot move a product away from zero.
Why the others are wrong
- (a)326.592 — As printed, 326.592 is not even a whole number, and a product of whole numbers always is. Read as 326,592 it is still non-zero, and a 0 factor makes the product 0.
- (c)4.536 — 4.536 is not a whole number as printed, so it cannot be a product of digits. Whatever it stands for, it is non-zero, and the factor 0 forces 0.
- (d)5040 — 5040 is 1 × 2 × … × 7 (7!). It stops at 7 and leaves out the 0, which by itself settles the product at 0.
Concept
Zero is the absorbing element of multiplication: a × 0 = 0 for every a. So a product over any range that includes 0 is 0, however many other factors there are.
