Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. The solutions are written by UnlockIAS.

Rule: each letter is replaced by its position in the alphabet (A = 1 … Z = 26).

T = 20, I = 9, G = 7, E = 5, R = 18 gives 20-9-7-5-18 ✓

REGIT is TIGER spelt backwards, so its code is the same numbers reversed:
R = 18, E = 5, G = 7, I = 9, T = 20
= 18-5-7-9-20 → option (c).

Why the others are wrong

(a)
15-4-4-16-12 — 15-4-4-16-12 opens with 15, which is O. R is the 18th letter, and E is 5, not 4.
(b)
6-23-26-13-22 — 6-23-26-13-22 opens with 6, which is F. The first letter of REGIT is R, position 18.
(d)
21-26-12-16-8 — 21-26-12-16-8 opens with 21, which is U, not R (18). None of its numbers is in TIGER's code.

Concept

The plainest letter code writes each letter as its alphabet position. The pair TIGER / 20-9-7-5-18 confirms it at once: T is the 20th letter, I the 9th, and so on.

Once a code works letter by letter, rearranging the letters rearranges the numbers in step. REGIT reverses TIGER, so the code reverses too.

Recomputing every letter from scratch instead of reversing the given code, which invites a slip.
Mixing forward and reverse positions: R is 18 forward but 9 in reverse.
