Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. Correct — B. The Chambal rises in the Janapav hills of Madhya Pradesh, flows through Rajasthan past Kota, then marks the Madhya Pradesh–Uttar Pradesh boundary before joining the Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh.

The ravines line this river valley, so they lie in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh → option (b).

Why the others are wrong

(a)
Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh — Gujarat is outside the Chambal basin. The river never enters the state, so no Chambal ravines lie there, even though Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are right.
(c)
Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat — Gujarat is outside the Chambal basin, and Rajasthan, where the Chambal flows past Kota, is missing. Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are right.
(d)
Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh — Punjab and Haryana lie well north of the Chambal valley. The river ends in the Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh and reaches neither state.

Concept

A ravine is a deep, narrow gully cut by running water. Along the Chambal, rain and the river have carved the soft alluvial soil into a maze of gullies, the badland landscape that marks the valley.

The same stretch of river shelters the gharial. The National Chambal Sanctuary protects it across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, the same three states as the answer.

Each wrong option keeps one or two correct states and adds at least one state the river never touches, so spotting the odd state out is the fastest route.

Common traps

Adding Gujarat because it borders both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh: the Chambal basin does not reach it.
