Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. Correct — B. Sentence 1 names the topic, protein folding, and why it matters, so it opens.

Sentence 3 stays with folding done right: chaperones assist in correct folding.

That sets up its opposite, sentence 2's Misfolding, and the disease it can cause.

Sentence 4 moves to a modern tool that predicts structures → 1-3-2-4, option (b).

Why the others are wrong

1-2-3-4 — 1-2-3-4 puts misfolding before the chaperones. It reads, but it splits the account of normal folding in two: function, then disease, then back to how correct folding is helped.

3-1-4-2 — 3-1-4-2 opens on chaperones assisting in correct folding before folding has been introduced, and ends on disease after the AI tools, cut off from the folding it follows from.

4-1-3-2 — 4-1-3-2 opens with AI tools that predict structures before the passage has said what protein folding is or why structure matters.

Concept

With no connector such as Therefore to anchor it, order a short jumble by what each sentence needs first.

Sentence 1 introduces protein folding, and 3 and 2 both lean on it: 3 speaks of correct folding, 2 of its opposite, misfolding.

The order then runs from the normal process (3) to its failure (2) and on to the modern tool (4).

Option (a), 1-2-3-4, is the closest rival: disease first, then chaperones as the safeguard, also reads sensibly. The two orders differ only in where sentence 3 goes, and the key keeps it beside sentence 1.
