Where is India’s first Green Hydrogen Hub planned?
- (a)Punjab
- (b)Andhra Pradesh
- (c)West Bengal
- (d)Maharashtra
Answer
Why
Correct — B. PIB's release of 6 January 2025 names the NTPC Green Energy Limited Green Hydrogen Hub at Pudimadaka, near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, as the first Green Hydrogen Hub under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
The Prime Minister laid its foundation stone at Visakhapatnam on 8 January 2025 → option (b).
Why the others are wrong
- (a)Punjab — Punjab is not where PIB places it. The first hub under the Mission is NTPC Green Energy's project at Pudimadaka, near Visakhapatnam.
- (c)West Bengal — West Bengal is not the site. PIB names Pudimadaka, in Andhra Pradesh, for the first Green Hydrogen Hub under the Mission.
- (d)Maharashtra — Maharashtra is not the site. The first hub under the National Green Hydrogen Mission is at Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh.
Concept
Green hydrogen is hydrogen made by splitting water through electrolysis run on renewable electricity. The Union Cabinet approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission on 4 January 2023, with a 2030 target of at least 5 MMT a year.
PIB puts the Pudimadaka hub's investment at about ₹1,85,000 crore, including 20 GW of renewable capacity. It is planned to produce 1500 tonnes a day of green hydrogen and 7500 tonnes a day of derivatives, mainly for export.
PIB lists the derivatives as green methanol, green urea and sustainable aviation fuel, all made using green hydrogen, and says the output primarily targets the export market.

Common traps
- Choosing by a state's industrial reputation instead of the named project: the first hub is at Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh.
- Taking the Mission's 2030 target as 10 MMT: it is at least 5 MMT a year.
The Mission behind the hub is asked at 21 Sep 2025, 16:00, GA Q.24, on its aims and 2030 target, and at 14 Sep 2025, 09:00, GA Q.18, on the ministry that implements it.
