Fill in the Blank: Ghoomar was listed among top local dances globally in ______ year.
- (a)2010
- (b)2013
- (c)2015
- (d)2018
Answer
Why
Correct — B. News reports in July 2013 said an international travel website had ranked Ghoomar fourth in its list of the world's ten most amazing local dances.
Ghoomar is the folk dance of Rajasthan in which women in long, flowing ghaghara skirts twirl in circles → option (b).
Why the others are wrong
- (a)2010 — 2010 is the year UNESCO inscribed the Kalbelia folk songs and dances of Rajasthan on its Representative List. The Ghoomar ranking came in 2013.
- (c)2015 — 2015 does not match the reports, which date the travel website's top-ten list of local dances, with Ghoomar at number four, to July 2013.
- (d)2018 — 2018 is the year the film Padmaavat, which features a song called 'Ghoomar', was released. The top-ten listing of local dances was in 2013.
Concept
Ghoomar is a traditional folk dance of Rajasthan, performed chiefly by veiled women in flowing skirts called ghaghara, who twirl in circles.
It was performed by the Bhil tribe in worship of the goddess Saraswati and later embraced by the Rajputs.
It is danced at weddings, festivals and religious occasions, and custom expects a newly married bride to dance Ghoomar on arriving at her marital home.
The stem does not say who made the list. What the July 2013 reports describe is an international travel website's top ten, not an award from a cultural body such as UNESCO.

Common traps
- Choosing 2010 because Kalbelia, another Rajasthani dance, entered UNESCO's list that year.
- Assuming a global listing must be a UNESCO inscription, when Ghoomar's 2013 ranking came from a travel website.
Rajasthani dances also appear at 12 Sep 2025, 16:00, GA Q.20 (what Kalbelia's movements represent), 23 Sep 2025, 09:00, GA Q.17 (Kalbelia's costume and its 2010 UNESCO listing) and 18 Sep 2025, 12:30, GA Q.24 (dances matched with their communities).
