Concept
In a mixed letter-and-number code, work on each position separately. Solve the letter slots first: they are quick, and they can settle the answer before any arithmetic.
Here the outer letters move +1 (B → C, T → U). The middle pair O, A becomes a number, and alphabet positions (A = 1 … Z = 26) are the natural first test for it.
One example cannot pin the number rule down. "Sum of the middle positions + 24" gives 40 for BOAT and 58 for JUMP.
"Twice the sum + 8" also gives 40 for BOAT, but 76 for JUMP. The last letter is what separates the options, which is why it is worth checking first.
