Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. The solutions are written by UnlockIAS.

Rule: a conclusion must fit the statement; one that contradicts it cannot follow.

I: record rainfall can overwhelm drains, and I claims only that they may have failed. Follows.

II: 'worst in 50 years' marks the rainfall as rare. 'Occurs regularly' says the opposite. Does not follow.

Why the others are wrong

Only Conclusion II follows — It accepts II, which the statement contradicts: the worst rainfall in 50 years is not a regular event. It also rejects I, a possibility the record rain supports.

Neither I nor II follows — It rejects I, but I claims only that the drains may have failed, a possibility that record rainfall makes reasonable.

Concept

Statement–conclusion items ask what can be drawn from the statement alone, without outside facts. A conclusion that contradicts the statement never follows.

Watch the strength of each conclusion. 'May have failed' asks only for a possibility, which the worst rainfall in half a century supports. 'Occurs regularly' is a firm claim, and 'worst in 50 years' says the reverse.

Strictly, the statement says nothing about drains. Conclusion I passes because it claims only a possibility, and the key accepts that reading.
