This question tests one thing that actually matters and three that are memory ballast. The thing that matters is what an intertrappean bed is. Between two eruptions there is a pause — sometimes long enough to weather the lava surface and let lakes and streams develop on it — and the sediment laid down in that pause becomes a thin bed trapped between the flows.
