A cube is constructed by folding the given sheet along the lines shown. In the cube so formed, what would be the word on the opposite side of ‘Ball’?

Correct — D.

The net is a vertical strip of four squares — Bat, Net, Stick, Goal from top to bottom — with Ball hanging off the left edge of Net and Field off the right edge of Goal.

Rule: in a straight run of four squares, the 1st and 3rd are opposite, and so are the 2nd and 4th.

That pairs Bat with Stick and Net with Goal.

A cube has exactly three pairs of opposite faces and two are now used up. The two faces left over are the side flaps, Ball and Field, so they must form the third pair.

The face opposite Ball is Field → option (d).

Why the others are wrong

(a)
Bat — Bat is the first square of the vertical strip, which folds it opposite Stick, the third. It cannot be opposite Ball as well.
(b)
Stick — Stick is the third square of the strip and is therefore opposite Bat, the first. Two different faces cannot both face Ball.
(c)
Goal — Goal is the fourth square of the strip, which pairs it with Net, the second. Ball is not part of that strip at all.

Concept

Cube nets fold by one reliable shortcut: squares one apart in a straight line end up opposite. Skip a square along a row or a column and you have found an opposite pair.

Here four squares run down a single column — Bat, Net, Stick, Goal — so Bat-Stick and Net-Goal are settled without any mental folding.

A cube has six faces in three opposite pairs. With two pairs fixed, the two remaining faces must be the third pair, and counting the pairs finishes the question faster than rotating the net in your head.
