Why the others are wrong

Concept

The Khelo India University Games are the university tier of the Khelo India programme, run by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and staged in a host state that supplies the branding.

Uttar Pradesh hosted the third edition, and its mascot Jitu is a barasingha — the state's own animal.

That link holds here, but do not turn it into a rule. The FIH men's Hockey World Cup 2023 in Odisha ran with Olly, an olive ridley turtle, and Odisha's state animal is the sambar. Mascots are plain recall: learn each edition with its host and its mascot together.

The year label is worth a note. SSC's stem says Khelo India University Games 2022 and means the Uttar Pradesh edition, which several references date instead to 2023, counting the Bengaluru games held in April–May 2022 as the edition before it.
