Which of the following statements about the aims of National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) of India is/are correct?

Why

Correct — D. All three aims listed are genuine NMSA aims, so the key takes option (d), '1, 2 and 3 are correct.'

The National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture was framed to make Indian farming more productive, sustainable, remunerative and climate-resilient, which carries statements 1 and 2 straight off.

Statement 3 is covered as well: organic farming is promoted through NMSA's own components, the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana being the best known of them.

Why the others are wrong

(a)
To make agriculture more productive. — Productivity is a true NMSA aim, but taken alone it drops sustainability and organic farming, which the mission also carries. A true-but-partial option loses to the one that keeps all three.
(b)
To make agriculture more sustainable. — Sustainability is equally a real NMSA aim — it is in the mission's name. The option is not false, only incomplete.
(c)
To promote organic farming. — Organic farming is promoted under NMSA too, so this statement is right as far as it goes and still too narrow to be the answer.

Concept

NMSA is one of the eight missions under the National Action Plan on Climate Change, adopted in 2008. Its brief is agriculture that survives a changing climate rather than agriculture that simply produces more.

Its components work on that brief directly: Rainfed Area Development, On-Farm Water Management and Soil Health Management, with organic and natural farming promoted inside the soil-health arm.

The response sheet prints the three aims as options (a), (b) and (c) and then offers option (d), '1, 2 and 3 are correct.' Read (a), (b) and (c) as statements 1, 2 and 3 in that order, which is the only reading on which option (d) means anything.
