Red-green colour blindness is an X-linked recessive trait. An affected (XᶜXᶜ) mother passes the mutant allele to all children; the normal father (XY) contributes a normal X to the daughter (XᶜX) who becomes a carrier but is phenotypically normal, while the son receives the affected Xᶜ and inherits colour blindness (XᶜY).
