India possesses one of the world’s largest thorium reserves, mostly in monazite placer sands along the coasts of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha; therefore Statement 1 is wrong. Kerala’s monazite sands are rich in thorium (≈8–10 % ThO₂) but not uranium in any significant amount, making Statement 2 wrong as well. Hence neither statement is correct.
