Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. This paper reaches us as a candidate's response sheet saved as pictures, so we transcribed the text from those pictures, and a second reader checked every question against them; where the layout carries meaning, we show the picture too. Each answer is the key SSC marked with a green tick on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. UnlockIAS wrote the solutions.

Read the below statements regarding Aman Sehrawat's performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics: Statement I: Aman Sehrawat won the bronze medal in the Men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling event by defeating Darian Cruz of Puerto Rico. Statement II: With this win, at the age of 21 years and 24 days, he surpassed PV Sindhu to become India’s youngest-ever individual Olympic medalist. Which of the following is correct?

Correct — D. Statement I holds. At Paris 2024 Aman Sehrawat won bronze in men's freestyle 57 kg, beating Darian Cruz of Puerto Rico 13–5 in the bronze-medal bout.

Statement II holds. He was 21 years and 24 days old, which made him the youngest Indian to win an individual Olympic medal. The previous youngest was P.V. Sindhu, silver medallist at Rio 2016. Both → option (d).

Why the others are wrong

Neither statement I nor II is correct — Both statements are accurate: the 57 kg bronze came against Darian Cruz, and Aman's age set a new mark for India's youngest individual Olympic medallist.

Only statement I is correct — Statement II is also true. At 21 years and 24 days Aman was younger than P.V. Sindhu at her Rio 2016 silver, so the record passed to him.

Concept

Olympic wrestling gives two bronze medals in each weight class. Wrestlers beaten by the two finalists go into a repechage, and each semifinal loser then meets a repechage winner for bronze.

Aman beat Vladimir Egorov and Zelimkhan Abakarov, lost his semifinal to Japan's Rei Higuchi, the eventual champion, and then won bronze against Darian Cruz. It was India's sixth medal of the Paris Games.

Statement II's arithmetic can be checked: born 16 July 2003, bronze on 9 August 2024, which is 21 years and 24 days.
