Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. Correct — B. NCERT's Class 10 geography text settles all four.

Statement 1 is true: the raw material is bulky, and "in haulage its sucrose content reduces".

Statement 2 is true: NCERT calls the industry seasonal in nature.

Statement 3 is false: that seasonality, NCERT says, makes it "ideally suited to the cooperative sector".

Statement 4 is true: Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are both in NCERT's list of sugar-mill States. That leaves 1, 2 and 4.

Why the others are wrong

Only 1 and 3 — Keeps the false statement 3. NCERT calls the sugar industry "ideally suited to the cooperative sector", and this option also drops the true statements 2 and 4.

Concept

Sugar is an agro-based industry. Its raw material, cane, is bulky and loses sucrose in haulage, so the industry depends on how quickly cane reaches the mill.

NCERT notes that mills have been shifting to the southern and western States, especially Maharashtra. Cane there has a higher sucrose content, the cooler climate gives a longer crushing season, and cooperatives are more successful there.

"Include" in statement 4 does the work. Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are both sugar States in NCERT's list, which is enough for the statement to hold; it makes no claim that they are the top two.
