Why

Correct — C. Abhinav Bindra won the 10 m air rifle gold at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, on 11 August 2008.

It was India's first individual Olympic gold medal. Every Indian gold before it had been won by the men's hockey team.

It stayed the only individual gold until Neeraj Chopra won the javelin at the Tokyo Games in 2021. Fix the pairing by the year — Bindra, air rifle, 2008 — and option (c) follows.

Why the others are wrong

Athens 2004 — At Athens 2004 India's one medal was Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore's silver in the men's double trap. A shooting medal, but silver, and not Bindra's.

Rio 2016 — India won no shooting medal at Rio 2016. Its medals there were PV Sindhu's badminton silver and Sakshi Malik's wrestling bronze.
(d)
London 2012 — London 2012 did bring India two shooting medals — Vijay Kumar's silver in the 25 m rapid fire pistol and Gagan Narang's bronze in the 10 m air rifle. Bindra did not medal there.

Concept

Beijing 2008 is the Games of the first individual gold. Bindra's event, the 10 m air rifle, is shot from a standing position at a target 10 metres away, decided by fractions of a ring in the final.

Knowing which Games produced which medals also disposes of the distractors: a year that produced no shooting medal at all cannot be the answer to a shooting question.

Bindra's is the individual gold. India's eight Olympic golds before 2008 belong to the men's hockey team, and the question is worded so that a team gold cannot be the answer.
