Why

Correct — D. Kota is classed as an industrial district. The district's economy rests on large plant along the Chambal — a super thermal power station at Kota, a fertiliser plant at Gadepan, chemical and engineering units, and the Kota stone worked in the same belt.

The paper's own classification treats it that way. The companion item at 12 Sep 2024, 16:00, GA Q7 asks which pair is NOT an industrial district and leaves 'Cuttack and Kota' on the industrial side, marking 'Alwar and Bhiwani' as the exception.

Why the others are wrong

(a)
Faridabad — Faridabad is genuinely industrial — Haryana's largest industrial centre, inside the National Capital Region — which makes it the strongest trap in this set. The key marks Kota, and it is the paper's classification that the page grades.
(b)
Meerut — Meerut is known for sports goods and scissors, made largely in small and household units. That is a craft-industry profile rather than the large-plant profile the label points at.
(c)
Jaipur — Jaipur is first of all a state capital, and its economy leans on tourism, handicrafts and gems and jewellery rather than on heavy industry.

Concept

Indian districts pick up functional labels from whatever dominates their economy — administrative, industrial, mining, commercial, educational, tourist.

Kota earns the industrial label from heavy plant: thermal power on the Chambal, fertiliser and chemicals, and engineering and cement units, with Kota stone quarried in the same region.

The label describes dominance, not exclusivity. Kota is also the country's best-known coaching town, and that is the association most candidates bring to the name — which is exactly what makes the question work.

The stem asks only for 'an example', and more than one district on this list has industry of some kind. What settles it is the classification the paper is using, in which Kota sits with the industrial districts.
