Why

Correct — C. Deuce is a scoring call from tennis — used when both sides reach 40, after which one of them must win two points in a row to take the game.

Badminton borrows the same device at 20-all and table tennis at 10-all. Cricket has no deuce, because cricket has no point-by-point service score to tie.

The other three are cricket's own: a no ball and a wide ball are illegal deliveries the umpire signals, and the wicket is both the stumps and a batter's dismissal. The term outside cricket is option (c).

Why the others are wrong

(a)
No Ball — No ball is cricket: an illegal delivery — overstepping the popping crease, a high full toss, too many bouncers — which the umpire signals and which costs the bowling side a penalty run.
(b)
Wide Ball — Wide ball is cricket's call for a delivery passing outside the batter's normal reach. It also costs a penalty run and the ball has to be bowled again.
(d)
Wicket — Wicket is cricket's most-worked word of all: the three stumps with their bails, the strip of pitch between them, and the dismissal of a batter.

Concept

A NOT question in the sports block is a term-to-sport test in disguise. You are not asked what deuce means, only whether cricket owns it.

The fastest way through is a short shortlist per sport. Cricket: no ball, wide, maiden over, googly, silly point. Tennis: deuce, love, ace, volley, let. Kabaddi: raider, baulk line, lobby, cant. Chess: castling, gambit, stalemate.

Once a term sits in one of those lists, the NOT question answers itself in a second.

Deuce is not exclusive to tennis — badminton and table tennis use it, and so does the old scoring of several racquet games. That does not weaken the key, because the item asks only whether the term belongs to cricket.
