In 2022, which of the following railway stations has been selected for the ‘One Station One Product’ scheme launched by Indian Railways, which identifies Kanchipuram sarees as the chosen product?

Why

Correct — C. Chennai Central. One Station One Product gives a railway station an outlet for a product made in the region that station serves.

The product named here is the Kanchipuram saree, woven at Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu.

Of the four stations offered, the Tamil Nadu one is Chennai Central — Patna Jn is in Bihar, Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Howrah in West Bengal. The station carrying Kanchipuram sarees is therefore option (c).

Why the others are wrong

(a)
Patna Jn — Patna Jn serves Bihar, far from the Kanchipuram weaving belt. OSOP pairs a station with a product of its own region, so a Tamil Nadu silk cannot be the Patna allotment.
(b)
Visakhapatnam — Visakhapatnam is in Andhra Pradesh. The saree in the question is a Tamil Nadu weave, and the regional logic OSOP is built on rules the Andhra station out.
(d)
Howrah — Howrah is in West Bengal, whose own silk names are Murshidabad and Baluchari, not Kanchipuram. Naming the product fixes the state first, and that state is Tamil Nadu.

Concept

One Station One Product was announced in the Union Budget 2022-23. It gives weavers, potters, artisans and farmers a designated sale point at a railway station for a product identified with that station's region.

The idea is the Vocal for Local one applied to footfall: a station moves thousands of travellers a day past a stall they would otherwise never find.

For an exam, the scheme is really a geography question wearing a scheme's name. You are told the product; you have to place it on the map.

Kanchipuram has its own railway station, so a candidate who reasons "the product is from Kanchipuram, the station must be Kanchipuram" gets nothing to pick.

The key names the big terminus that serves the region — Chennai Central. Place the product's state first, then look for the station that sits in it.
