Why

Correct — D. A Kabaddi side puts seven players on the court at a time.

The registered squad is twelve — seven on the mat and five substitutes. A raider crosses into the opposite half against those seven defenders, and every defender he touches before getting home is out.

Seven is the number written into the rules of play, and that is what the question asks for → option (d).

Why the others are wrong

9 — Nine is the Kho-Kho count — a squad of twelve with nine on the field. SSC sets the two indigenous games against each other, so learn the pair together rather than one at a time.
(b)
10 — Twelve, not ten, is the squad size, and seven of those twelve play. Ten matches neither number in Kabaddi.
(c)
8 — Eight is one too many. The playing side is fixed at seven, and the remaining five of the twelve-member squad wait on the bench.

Concept

Kabaddi is played between two teams of seven on a rectangular court split into two halves by a mid-line.

A raider enters the opponents' half chanting 'kabaddi' without pausing for breath, tries to touch defenders and must get back across the mid-line to score. Defenders try to hold him until his breath or the 30-second raid time runs out.

The baulk line is the line the raider has to cross for the raid to count, and a bonus point is available when he crosses the bonus line while six or more defenders are still on the court.

Players put out return one by one as their own side scores, and a team that puts all seven opponents out earns a lona, worth two extra points.

The question says 'on each side ... in the field', which separates the seven who play from the twelve who are registered.

Both numbers get asked, so fix them as a pair.
