Why

Correct — C. The National Sports University is at Imphal, in Manipur, and it is India's first university devoted to sport rather than to general higher education.

It was created by the National Sports University Act, 2018, which incorporates the university in the State of Manipur, and it works under the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Manipur is a long-standing nursery of Indian boxing, weightlifting and football — Mary Kom and Mirabai Chanu both come from the state — which is the logic behind the siting.

Why the others are wrong

Mizoram — Mizoram does not host it. The state's central university is Mizoram University at Aizawl, a general university, not the sports institution this stem asks about.
(b)
Tripura — Tripura is a decoy. The Act that set the university up names Manipur as the state of incorporation, so nothing of it sits in Agartala.
(d)
Meghalaya — Meghalaya hosts North-Eastern Hill University at Shillong, the North East campus many candidates half-remember. That is a general central university, not this one.

Concept

The National Sports University is a central university with a single subject. Its declared areas are sports sciences, sports technology, sports management and sports coaching — the support professions around an athlete, not only athletes themselves.

That is what makes it examinable. SSC can ask for the state, the founding Act or the ministry, and each is a one-line fact.

Treat it as one entry in a larger list of institution-to-state pairs, which is how the General Awareness section uses institutions.

Do not confuse the university with the Sports Authority of India, which runs training centres across the country and is a separate body under the same ministry.
