Correct — A, Abu Dhabi. The WTO's own record of the event is unambiguous: the 13th Ministerial Conference took place from 26 February to 2 March 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and was chaired by H.E. Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Trade. It was scheduled to close on 29 February; on that day members agreed to extend the conference by a further day to 1 March in order to try to land outcomes on the main issues, and the closing ceremony ran into the early hours of 2 March. The opening session on 26 February was immediately followed by a ceremony marking the accessions of Comoros and Timor-Leste, and by a ceremony for the latest acceptances of the Fisheries Subsidies Agreement; the same day carried two 'ministerial conversations', one on trade and sustainable development and one on trade and inclusion. The Ministerial Conference matters because of what it is: under the Agreement Establishing the WTO it is the organisation's topmost decision-making body, it brings together every member — all of which are countries or customs unions — it can take decisions on any matter falling under any of the multilateral trade agreements, and it usually meets once every two years.
