Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. This paper reaches us as a candidate's response sheet saved as pictures, so we transcribed the text from those pictures, and a second reader checked every question against them; where the layout carries meaning, we show the picture too. Each answer is the key SSC marked with a green tick on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. UnlockIAS wrote the solutions.

Rule: read the chain backwards, starting from 'my wife'.

son of my wife = my son
brother of my son = also my son
daughter of that son = my granddaughter

Sakshi is the speaker's granddaughter. The speaker has a wife, so the speaker is a man: her grandfather → option (d).

Why the others are wrong

(a)
Granddaughter — Granddaughter is what Sakshi is to the speaker. The question asks the reverse: how the speaker is related to Sakshi.
(b)
Grandson — Grandson puts the speaker two generations below Sakshi. The chain puts the speaker two generations above her, as her grandfather.
(c)
Grandmother — Grandmother is the right generation but the wrong person: Sakshi's grandmother is the speaker's wife. The speaker, who has a wife, is the grandfather.

Concept

Blood-relation chains are read from the inside out. Start from the person you can place, here 'my wife', and replace each 'of' step with one relation until a single word is left.

Two checks finish the item. Direction: the question asks how the speaker is related to Sakshi, not the other way round. Gender: a speaker who says 'my wife' is the husband, so the answer is grandfather, not grandmother.
