Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. Why the others are wrong

2-1-3-4 — Puts Consequently straight after the opener, so the result arrives before the changes that cause it, and 3, the leisure change that 2 announces, is cut off from 2.

2-4-1-3 — Ends on 3, a detail about time at home, after the Consequently conclusion. Sentence 3 explains how 2 transformed leisure, so it belongs directly after 2.
(c)
3-4-2-1 — Opens with People spent more time at home before television is mentioned, and the It in 4 then points to nothing, since television arrives only in 2.

Concept

Link words fix the ends of a jumble. Consequently (1) signals a result, so its sentence needs the causes before it, which here places it last.

A sentence that introduces its subject, The advent of television (2), opens. It (4) needs a singular noun before it, and television is the one on offer, since People (3) is plural.

The middle follows scope: first the direct change to leisure (3), then the wider social effect (4).

Order (b) keeps It right next to television, which makes it look tidy. What it breaks is the 2 → 3 link: 'transformed leisure activities' is explained by 'People spent more time at home, watching programs', and (d) is the order that puts them side by side.

Common traps

Placing 4 straight after 2 because It fits television best, when the leisure detail in 3 has to sit next to 2 first.
Putting Consequently second because the opener already states a change, when the result should follow the specific changes.
