Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. Correct — A. Check both figures against the World Athletics Technical Rules.

Statement 1 is correct. The high-jump runway must be at least 15 m long, and certain major competitions need 25 m.

Statement 2 is wrong. The circular part of the crossbar is 30 mm ± 1 mm in diameter. The 0.15–0.20 m figure is the length of each end piece that rests on the supports.

So statement 1 alone → option (a).

Why the others are wrong

Only 2 is Correct — Statement 2 fails. The crossbar's circular part is 30 mm thick. 15–20 cm is the length of its end pieces, not a diameter.

Concept

World Athletics writes the vertical jumps in two layers: general conditions for high jump and pole vault (TR 26) and the high-jump rule itself (TR 27).

The crossbar sits in TR 26: fibre-glass or similar but not metal, 4.00 m ± 0.02 m long in the high jump, at most 2 kg, circular part 30 mm ± 1 mm across.

The runway sits in TR 27: at least 16 m wide and 15 m long.

Statement 2 borrows a real number. Each end piece of the crossbar is 30–35 mm wide and 0.15–0.20 m long, and the statement moves that length onto the bar's diameter.

Common traps

Taking 15–20 cm for the crossbar's thickness: that is the length of each end piece, while the bar is 30 mm across.
Rejecting 15 m because some venues need 25 m: 15 m is the minimum, and 25 m applies to certain major competitions.
