Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. Why

Correct — A. The trigger is to abroad. Abroad is an adverb of place meaning 'in or to a foreign country', so the idea of 'to' is already inside it.

After a verb of motion it takes no preposition: go abroad, travel abroad, just as you go home.

Delete to and keep the tense: 'He is going abroad for higher studies.' → option (a).

Why the others are wrong

(b)
goes to abroad — goes to abroad keeps the faulty to, and it also changes the present continuous is going into the simple present goes.
(c)
is going to the abroad — to the abroad makes the error worse. Abroad here is an adverb, not a noun, so it takes neither the preposition to nor the article the.
(d)
is going for abroad — for abroad swaps one preposition for another. The fault is having a preposition between going and abroad at all, so for fails just as to does.

Abroad is normally an adverb of place: it means 'in or to a foreign country' and answers the question where?

Adverbs of place such as abroad, home, upstairs and downstairs follow a verb of motion directly: go abroad, come home, run upstairs. No preposition such as to comes before them in this use.

The standard exception is from abroad: 'students from abroad'.
