Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. Ravi is married to Rekha. Rekha’s brother is Ramesh. Ramesh’s wife is Rina. Rina’s son is Raj. How is Raj related to Ravi?

Raj is the son of Ravi's brother-in-law, one generation below Ravi: his nephew, option (a).

Why the others are wrong

Son — Son would need Raj to be Rekha's child. The stem makes him the son of Rina, Ramesh's wife.

Cousin — A cousin is the child of an uncle or aunt. Raj is the child of Ravi's brother-in-law, so he would be a cousin to a child of Ravi and Rekha, not to Ravi.

Brother-in-law — Brother-in-law is Ramesh's relation to Ravi. Raj is Ramesh's son, a generation below.

Concept

In a relation chain, a marriage or sibling link keeps you in the same generation: Rekha's brother Ramesh becomes Ravi's brother-in-law. A parent-to-child link moves you one generation down.

Raj is reached through two marriages, a sibling and a child, so he sits one generation below Ravi. In English the son of a brother-in-law or sister-in-law is a nephew, just as the son of one's own brother or sister is.

The stem names Raj as Rina's son and does not name his father. The item reads him as the son of Rina and Ramesh, the ordinary reading.
