Where this paper and its answers come from

SSC does not publish CGL question papers or a public answer key. From 2025 the candidate response sheet prints every question and option as a picture, so the text here is transcribed from those pictures for this shift and checked against them independently; where the layout carries meaning, the picture is shown as well. Each answer is the key SSC colour-marked on that sheet. SSC released a tentative key for challenge and later its final one, both only to candidates behind a login, and the sheet does not say which of the two it carries. Correct — B. At Beijing 2008, Vijender Singh boxed at middleweight (75 kg).

His quarter-final win over Carlos Góngora of Ecuador guaranteed a medal, since both losing semi-finalists receive bronze.

He then lost the semi-final to Emilio Correa of Cuba and took bronze, the first Olympic medal won by an Indian boxer.

Concept

Olympic boxing draws are split by weight class, so every opponent comes from the same division. Both losing semi-finalists receive bronze, which is why a quarter-final win settles a medal.

Vijender's 2008 middleweight run beat Badou Jack of the Gambia and Angkhan Chomphuphuang of Thailand, then Carlos Góngora, before a semi-final loss to Emilio Correa.

James DeGale of Great Britain won that gold, with Correa taking silver.
