Why

Correct — D. Swami Sahajanand Saraswati organised the Bihar Provincial Kisan Sabha in 1929, to press the tenants' case against zamindari exactions in Bihar.

A sanyasi turned peasant leader, he built the body out of local tenancy disputes over rent, illegal cesses and occupancy rights.

That provincial sabha became the base for the All India Kisan Sabha, founded at Lucknow in 1936, with Sahajanand as its first president and N. G. Ranga as general secretary.

Why the others are wrong

Jayprakash Narayan — Jayaprakash Narayan was also a Bihar leader, but his organisational work of this period is the Congress Socialist Party of 1934 — five years after the Bihar Kisan Sabha was formed.

JM Sengupta — JM Sengupta was a Congress leader of Bengal, active in Calcutta's municipal and provincial politics. He stands outside both the province and the peasant movement in question.

Kunwar Singh — Kunwar Singh led the revolt of 1857 around Jagdishpur in Bihar and died in 1858. He belongs to the previous century, not to a 1929 peasant organisation.

Bihar's Kisan Sabha of 1929, under Swami Sahajanand Saraswati, grew out of tenancy disputes with zamindars over rents, illegal cesses (abwabs) and occupancy rights.

In 1936 these provincial bodies came together at Lucknow as the All India Kisan Sabha, which demanded the abolition of zamindari. Its leadership later moved away from the Congress towards the left, which is why the peasant movement is taught as a strand of its own rather than as part of mainstream nationalism.
