Why

Correct — D. The Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's national academy for music, dance and drama, has its registered office at Rabindra Bhavan, New Delhi.

It was created by a Government of India resolution in 1952, the first of the three national akademis, and as a central cultural body it sits in the capital. The Sahitya Akademi and the Lalit Kala Akademi share the same building.

So the registered office is New Delhi — option (d).

Why the others are wrong

(a)
Kolkata — Kolkata hosts national cultural institutions of its own, such as the Victoria Memorial Hall, but not the registered office of this Akademi.
(b)
Chennai — Chennai is home to the Kalakshetra Foundation, a separate autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture. A plausible-looking swap, but a different institution.
(c)
Mumbai — Mumbai has the National Centre for the Performing Arts, which is a private institution and unconnected to the Akademi.

Concept

Three national academies were created in the early 1950s, one for each broad field of the arts.

Sangeet Natak Akademi (1952) covers music, dance and drama. Sahitya Akademi (1954) covers letters. Lalit Kala Akademi (1954) covers the visual arts. All three are autonomous bodies funded by the Ministry of Culture and all three are housed at Rabindra Bhavan in New Delhi.

For exam purposes the Akademi's best-known activity is the annual Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, conferred on performing artists.

The Akademi's highest honour is its fellowship, the Akademi Ratna, which ranks above the annual Akademi Award and is limited in number.
