Why

Correct — D. The title is Tamil, and the paper translates it for you: 'Ungalil Oruvan' = 'One Among You'. The language pins the author to Tamil Nadu, and the Tamil Nadu leader on this list is MK Stalin.

Stalin leads the DMK and is Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The book is his own account of his life in politics, written and published in Tamil under that title.

Why the others are wrong

K Chandrashekhar Rao — K Chandrashekhar Rao is the Telangana name here — he founded the TRS, later renamed the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, and was Telangana's first Chief Minister. His political language is Telugu, not Tamil.

Pinarayi Vijayan — Pinarayi Vijayan is the CPI(M) Chief Minister of Kerala, where the language is Malayalam. A Tamil title, glossed in the stem itself, cannot be his memoir.

Basavaraj Bommai — Basavaraj Bommai led Karnataka for the BJP between 2021 and 2023, a Kannada-speaking state. Nothing about a Tamil autobiography attaches to him.

Concept

SSC's book-and-author items are won on association, not on reading. You are not expected to have read 'Ungalil Oruvan' — you are expected to notice that the title is Tamil and to know who leads Tamil Nadu.

Build the habit of reading the language of a title first. A Tamil, Bengali or Marathi title narrows four national names to one before you have thought about the contents at all.

The stem says 'chief ministers' loosely: some of the four held the office earlier rather than at the time of the exam. That does not change the item.

Chasing the English gloss 'One Among You' when the Tamil title alone decides the item.
Assuming the answer must be a serving Chief Minister, or that it cannot be one.
