Why

Correct — B. N. Rangasamy left the Congress and founded the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) in 2011, and it is under that banner that he has led Puducherry.

He took oath as Chief Minister again in May 2021, this time with the AINRC allied to the BJP after the assembly election.

The party carries his own initials in its name, which is the giveaway in option (b).

Concept

Puducherry is a Union Territory with a legislature, so it has a Chief Minister and a Council of Ministers alongside a Lieutenant Governor appointed by the President — an arrangement it shares with Delhi.

Its politics run largely on Tamil Nadu's fault lines, plus one party of its own. The AINRC is that local party, and Rangasamy is the name the exam attaches to it.

The stem hands you the territory and the month and asks only for the party name. What is really being tested is whether you can attach a leader to an outfit.
