Why

Correct — B. India has won the men's ICC Cricket World Cup, the fifty-over event, in 1983 at Lord's under Kapil Dev, beating the West Indies, and in 2011 at the Wankhede under MS Dhoni, beating Sri Lanka.

Those two titles are the whole ODI World Cup record as of September 2024, which is what the key counts.

Why the others are wrong

3 — 3 comes from folding in the 2007 T20 World Cup or the 2013 Champions Trophy. Both are ICC titles India holds, and neither is the ODI World Cup the stem asks about.

The ICC Cricket World Cup is the fifty-over world championship, played about every four years since 1975. Sports questions here turn on keeping its record apart from the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy.

India's fifty-over wins are 1983 and 2011. India has also reached the final and lost, in 2003 and 2023, both times to Australia.

India holds other ICC trophies too, which is exactly why the counting choices work.
