Why the others are wrong
- (a)258 — 258 is 265 − 7, and 7 is no power of 3. The gaps run 243, 81, 27, 9, each a third of the one before, so the last gap is fixed at 3.
- (c)248 — 248 needs a gap of 17. The gap divides by 3 each step and the previous gap was 9, which leaves 3 and nothing else.
