Correct — A. The Sports Authority of India works under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, specifically its Department of Sports.

SAI was set up in 1984 to use and maintain the stadia built in Delhi for the 1982 Asian Games, and it grew into the government's field arm for coaching, training centres and talent schemes.

A sports body under the sports ministry is option (a) — the other three ministries have no sport mandate.

Why the others are wrong

Concept

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has two departments — Youth Affairs, and Sports.

Under the Department of Sports sit the Sports Authority of India, a registered society, and the schemes SAI carries out on the ground: national coaching and training centres, and the Khelo India programme.

National sports federations, by contrast, are autonomous bodies. The Indian Olympic Association is not a government department at all, and that line is what these questions test.

SAI's origin explains its shape. It was created to keep the 1982 Asian Games infrastructure in use, so it began as a manager of stadia and became a training organisation afterwards.
